LAYING TO REST OF OUR COMRADE, COL LOUIS SCHOTT, USMC(Ret) 11/29/2023

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, nearly 200 Veterans, active duty Marines, friends and family members gathered to pay their final respects to USMCR Col. Lou Schott, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart recipient from the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa 1944/1945. Col. Lou Schott died at the age of 103. Col. Schott was a resident of Howard County, Maryland, and he was an active member of American Legion Post 156, VFW Post 7472, and Marine Corps League Detachment 1084. Lou was buried with high honors at Arlington Cemetery: there was a March-on of the Marine Corps ceremonial detachment to include the riderless horse with empty boots reversed in the stirrups and the Col.'s Mameluke sword in the saddle; and this was followed by a flyover of an Osprey USMC aircraft. Col. Schott's funeral was also attended by the Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Carlos del Toro. The ceremony ended with the delivery of the folded flag to his five daughters, a special hand salute from the Marine Corps league, and the singing of all three verses of the Marines Corps Hymn. May Col. Schott's gallantry in combat, love for freedom, and commitment to the United States Marine Corps and his family NEVER BE FORGOTTEN…OORAH!
